Power generation and oil and gas companies increased their presence in Brazil's wind energy market in 2022, with billionaire investments announced last year. Wind farms are the third largest source of electricity in Brazil, producing about 12.5% of the country's electricity daily, according to the National Electric Energy Agency and the National Electric System Operator.
Brazil's wind farms are capable of producing 24.1 GW, enough to meet the needs of all homes in the North and Southeast of the country, but there is potential for even more, according to Elbia Gannoum, president of the Brazilian Association of Wind Energy.
